What inspires our spaces?

What inspires our spaces?

At Colonial, we believe that buildings should do more than meet technical or aesthetic standards. They should also tell a story. That’s why many of our spaces draw inspiration from the natural environment, local culture or the history of the place where they are built. Architecture, interior design and symbolic elements come together to create spaces with a unique identity—spaces made to be experienced and remembered.

Madnum: a vertical garden with roots

In the heart of Méndez Álvaro, La Plaza de Madnum features a unique green element: a vertical garden inspired by the madroño tree, a symbol of Madrid. This local reference is no coincidence. Through natural design and integrated vegetation, the space pays tribute to the city while adding both environmental and aesthetic value to the complex.

This gesture connects the building to its surroundings in a subtle yet meaningful way, showing how sustainability can engage in dialogue with local identity to create a contemporary and thoughtful environment.

Torre Marenostrum: shapes that echo the sea

In Barcelona, Torre Marenostrum rises alongside the Mediterranean Sea—and its architectural design reflects that setting in every detail. The curved forms of the building are inspired by the movement of waves crashing on the coast, evoking the fluidity and energy of the maritime landscape.

This connection to the surroundings is not only visual; it’s a way of bringing nature into the built environment, honouring the building’s prime location and offering an experience that can be felt from both the inside and the outside.

Utopicus Francisco Silvela: tradition meets modernity

In the case of Utopicus Francisco Silvela, inspiration comes from the city’s collective memory. Designed by Idoia Otegui, the space connects with early 20th-century Madrid. Each area is named after references to castizo tradition: chotis, verbena, rosquilla, pichi… Cultural elements deeply rooted in the history of the neighbourhood, now reimagined through a contemporary lens.

The result is a space that blends innovation with heritage—designed to spark new ideas without losing sight of where we come from. An office that pays tribute to the past while looking confidently toward the future.

Architecture with intent

Every building, every floor, every space at Colonial is designed with purpose. The inspiration behind our projects is not just a creative starting point—it’s a way of building meaning, connecting with our surroundings and offering memorable experiences to those who use our spaces.

Because we believe that workspaces can inspire, create a sense of pride, and reflect who we are.
