A growing number of companies are investing in creating an environment of wellness that enhances people’s wellbeing. Many offices now have wellness areas that help to strengthen bonds among colleagues and to make employees feel happier.

Regardless of the company’s size, a place should be set aside for eating and for switching off from the flow of work so that people from the office can recover their strength before returning to work. Moreover, if this area is properly organised and designed, it can be very effective as a comfort zone for employees and yield collective benefits for the company.

Lunchtime is a moment for relaxing and interacting on a more personal level, which can give rise to new ideas or approaches that enhance the atmosphere at work and therefore benefit the company. How to make an area that encourages wellness

  • It should basically be spacious and sufficiently well-equipped so that everyone who so wishes can eat quietly together while switching off and enjoying themselves.
  • A comfortable zone is essential to encourage employees to eat there and to generate a good atmosphere and thus prompt bonding among colleagues.
  • Although white lights are recommended in offices because they have a positive impact on concentration, here natural light or more yellowish lighting would be more suitable in order to generate a greater sense of disconnection.
  • The kitchen is the ideal place for encouraging healthy habits and a balanced diet. As well as offering water and fruit, employees can also be given ideas, for example, on how to prepare a balanced packed lunch.
  • Keeping the area clean is essential for it to become a wellness and co-working area. A list of basic rules for keeping the zone clean and tidy can therefore be established.
  • Awareness of recycling should be part of all aspects of offices. The kitchen is one of the areas where most waste is generated and it is therefore highly recommendable to have a zone properly adapted for recycling.
